Fibrehoods goes live in Waverley at the Star Academy

Fibrehoods is currently installing in Savoy Estate, Bramley, Highlands North and Waverley. The first premises in Waverley, The Star Academy – a school for autism and related disorders – went live on Friday 19th August. Fibrehoods is committed to not only providing a stable network but also in giving back to the community who support the fibre project. To that end, Fibrehoods is giving The Star Academy free high-speed internet access.

Ilana Gerschlowitz, Managing Director of The Star Academy says” With faster internet connections our teachers and facilitators are able to access information quickly and keep up to date with international technologies and trends.”

The demand for high-speed internet in residential areas continues to grow, especially with the introduction of providers such as Netflix, Showmax and various gaming sites. Fibrehoods, the first company in South Africa to offer high-speed aerial fibre, has answered this demand by deploying fibre networks across residential areas in Gauteng.

An aerial approach means that residents do not have to worry about verges being destroyed or driveways being dug up. Fibrehoods utilises existing City Power poles and, were necessary, will install additional poles to ensure that all residents in Savoy and Waverley will be able to connect to the network.

Over the next few months more and more residents will be able to connect to the network. As Fibrehoods offers an open access network, residents have the freedom to choose from a variety of Internet Service Providers who offer comparable data packages starting from R499 per month. Furthermore, residents only sign a month-to-month contract and are not tied into any long-term contracts.

Residents are encouraged to register their interest on the Fibrehoods’ portal where they are able to track the progress of their order or get information on data packages and areas in which Fibrehoods operates. Fibrehoods will communicate and engage with residents in Savoy Estate, Bramley, Highlands North and Waverley on a regular basis to keep them updated with the progress of the network rollout. The Fibrehoods’ portal can be found on the website

The company has installed networks in many neighbourhoods including Craighall, Craighall Park, Atholl, Illovo, Dunkeld, Bryanston and Melville, and the network offers speeds of 100 mega bits per second, which is 25 times faster than the average current ADSL service.

“High-speed internet can do more than just quickly download a movie or a song; it also has the ability to transform your home into a smart, more secure one. Having high-speed internet in your home may currently be seen as a luxury by some, but in the very near future it will be seen as a necessity. International trends have shown that homes with a fibre connection sell at a premium”, says Ricky Crook, CEO of Fibrehoods.
